Health Coverage for Every Stage of Life

Whether you're shopping for yourself, covering a family, approaching Medicare eligibility, or just need a bridge plan β€” here's what each option actually means for you.

01

Individual & Family Plans

Coverage for you and your household. Individual and family plans typically include doctor visits, hospital stays, prescriptions, preventive care, and mental health services. Premiums and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan tier and provider network.

Most Popular Option
02

ACA / Affordable Care Act Plans

Affordable Care Act plans are available through federal or state exchanges during Open Enrollment (November–January) or a Special Enrollment Period. Depending on your household income, you may qualify for premium tax credits that significantly lower your monthly cost.

03

Medicare & Medicare Advantage

If you're 65 or older β€” or under 65 with certain qualifying disabilities β€” Medicare provides federal health coverage. Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are offered by private insurers and often bundle hospital, medical, and prescription drug coverage with added benefits original Medicare doesn't include.

04

Short-Term Health Plans

Short-term plans provide temporary coverage during gaps β€” between jobs, after aging off a parent's plan, or while waiting for open enrollment. They're generally lower cost but cover less than ACA plans and are not a substitute for comprehensive coverage.

Common Health Insurance Questions

Health insurance can be confusing. Here are straightforward answers to the questions we hear most.

ACA (Affordable Care Act) plans are required to cover a set of Essential Health Benefits including emergency care, maternity care, mental health services, and prescription drugs. They also cannot deny you coverage or charge more based on pre-existing conditions. Short-term plans and some other options don't carry these requirements, which is why they're often cheaper but less comprehensive. If you qualify for premium tax credits based on your income, an ACA plan is often the best value.
For ACA (Affordable Care Act) plans, Open Enrollment runs from November 1 through January 15 each year (dates vary slightly by state). Outside of Open Enrollment, you can only enroll if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period β€” triggered by life events like losing job-based coverage, getting married, having a child, or moving to a new state. Medicare has its own enrollment periods: Initial Enrollment begins 3 months before your 65th birthday. Short-term plans can typically be purchased at any time.
  • Premium: What you pay every month to keep the plan active, whether or not you use it.
  • Deductible: What you pay out-of-pocket for covered services before your insurance starts sharing costs. A $2,000 deductible means you pay the first $2,000 yourself each year.
  • Copay / Coinsurance: Your share of costs after the deductible is met. A 20% coinsurance means you pay 20%, the plan pays 80%.
  • Out-of-Pocket Maximum: The most you'll ever pay in a plan year. Once you hit it, the plan covers 100% of covered services for the rest of the year.
Generally, lower-premium plans have higher deductibles and vice versa. The right balance depends on how often you use healthcare.
Most people become eligible for Medicare at age 65. You may also qualify before 65 if you have been receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for 24 months, or if you have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or ALS. Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) are offered by private insurers approved by Medicare and often include additional benefits like dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage. When you request a quote through Roll Insure, a provider will walk you through your Medicare options based on your specific situation.
